For anyone who had an Apple II+/IIc/IIe or even a Laser 128, and loved some of the games that they made, this is the page for you! The story: Right after Christmas break 1997, one of my floormates at Calvin College told me that they had a SuperNES emulator for their PC. I was a little doubtful, but after searching the Web for a similar emulator, I found not only the SuperNES emulator, but also many other older system emulators! Commodore 64, Atari 2800, Apple II, Sega, etc... I was in heaven. OK, so you have an emulator, but you gave away all of your games, what good is it going to do you? Well, an emulator doesn't do well without the disks, so finding the Apple II Archives was the next step. Finding this site brought back so many memories. With most of my childhood spent in front of this old computer system, looking at these names alone gave me a rush. Well, needless to say, this rush has to be spread to other Apple II enthusiasts that I know, and ones that I don't know, so that is the reason this page is in existence.

The start: First of all, you need an Apple II emulator. My favorite is
AppleWin (download it here - 511k) or check out http://applewin.berlios.de for the latest version. NOTE: I don't provide support for this emulator, it is pretty simple to use, and has some documentation itself.

Now what? Next, the disk images. Check out my favorites:

or check out the Apple II Archives where almost every Apple II game is listed.
Thanks to Samantha Lofgren for another Apple II disk archive location: mirrors.nsa.co.il

Diddily diddily! (in a Flanders type voice) - someone found Empires for me! Galactic Empires (73k) was the official name I guess. Thanks a ton to Jay Link for sending this one to me.

Do you have any Apple II stories? I would love to hear them... web-comments@greenfld.net

And, since the response to this page has been quite good - I'll even include some answers to the most frequently asked questions:
1. Cheat codes for Rescue Raiders?  Yep, I remember them:
First, after you start playing, you type ZIPPY and then the cheat "keys" are enabled.  The keys are:
J: Teleport to enemy base.
K: Teleport to middle of level
L: Teleport to your base.
/: free helecopter
-#: where # is a number 1-8, goto level #...
and you can even save a game in progress (can only save 1 game though...) - just type SAVE.  then to retrieve that game type CONT.  Anything I left out?

2. Trouble unzipping stuff from the Apple II Archives?  I've found that WinZip (http://www.winzip.com) can handle practically everything on the site.

3. Emulator for Mac / Linux?  Yep, Apple II Archives has them - ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/emulators

4. Do you know of a game that you just can't find anywhere? Well, let's start a list, and hopefully others can help you out:

  • Oregon Trail - FOUND! - Oregon Trail thanks to Zaid Haddadin for this one!
  • Empires - FOUND! - See above - YEA!
  • Taipan - a trading game. - FOUND! - Taipan thanks to Mike for this one!
  • Robot Odyssey - FOUND! - http://members.aol.com/Fractal101/odyssey.htm
  • Haunted House - FOUND! - Haunted House
  • Starway Traders
  • title unknown - a drunk driving "educational" game. You choose how much to drink and eat and then "drive home".
  • Spellevator - A little dust bunny that hopped around collecting letters to spell words while trying to avoid vacuum cleaners.
  • Math Blaster
  • Any other good FTP sites with .dsk or .do Apple II images - please send me a link!
Of course, if you have any more requests - e-mail me!

5. Other resources available to continue your search:
ClassicGaming.com - Looks like a lot of good Apple II roms here + more...
www.mame.net - Not specifically Apple II, but is a really awsome emulator for arcade systems.
